Steve Corfield wins the Surrey Road League over-60 championship 2022
Steve Corfield ran very well to win the Surrey Road League over-60 championship for 2022. He was the first over-60 to finish in three of the seven league races, and placed third in two of the others. Club colleague Andrew Aitken placed second in the over-40 championship, while Tatsuya Okamoto was third. Striders’ men did very well to place fifth out of the 38 clubs in the league, which is the club’s best placing since 2003, when they were fourth. Striders’ women were 23rd.
In the Serpentine five-kilometre race at Hyde Park on Friday, Matthew Stone was the first over-60 to finish, placing 21st overall in 18 minutes 11.
Three Striders competed in the Epsom Mile track races at Ewell on Thursday. Phil Coales was sixth in the A race in a personal best 4:44.9, while Joseph Ibe was third in his race (5:17.2) and Nikki Javan was sixth in her race (6:16.6).
James Rhodes placed second out of 201 finishers in the South Norwood parkrun on Saturday (18:21). Martin Filer was third in the Riddlesdown parkrun (18:58), while Consuelo Kennefick was the second woman to finish, placing 15th overall (22:57). Justin Macenhill was third in the Marston Vale parkrun (19:25). Striders had a total of 109 finishers in the various weekly parkruns.
In the Lloyd junior parkrun on Sunday, Zoe Siu was the fourth female finisher, placing 15th overall (10:15), while Hazel Siu was the seventh female finisher (11:11) and Elena Ambrosi was the ninth female finisher (11:30).
