Striders run well at the new Kenley Summer 10k
Alastair Falconer, from Striders of Croydon, had an excellent run to place fourth out of 263 finishers in the Kenley Summer 10K on Sunday. He recorded 36 minutes 33 seconds, just over a minute outside his personal best. Club colleague Liam Redmond was 18th (39:22) with Peter Johnson 30th (41:39), Martin Filer 32nd (41:47), Sheena Hammond 178th (60:15), Chris Taylor 190th (61:40) and Azra Mathias 248th (75:41).
Four days earlier, Peter Johnson had placed third in the M55 age-group, and eighth of 21 runners in his heat, in the Hyde Park Harriers Summer Mile. The race took place at Hyde Park in Leeds (not Hyde Park in London). Peter recorded a personal best of 5 minutes 50 seconds.
Two Striders completed the Salomon Serpent Trail 50-kilometre ultra-marathon on Saturday, from Petworth in Sussex to Petersfield in Hampshire. Darren Woods, in his first ultra-marathon, placed 114th out of 302 finishers, recording 5 hours 52 minutes 24 seconds. Gemma Halliday was the 43rd woman to finish, placing 170th overall in 6 hours 27 minutes 30 seconds.
Earlier on Saturday, Susan Haynes had placed 47th out of 100 finishers in the Kapiti Coast parkrun in New Zealand, recording 28 minutes 53 seconds.
