Surrey Masters Track & Field Championships
Striders of Croydon had a successful day in the Surrey Masters Track & Field Championships, at Kingsmeadow on Saturday. Their team of six athletes won eight gold medals and one silver. Tatsuya Okamoto ran very well to win gold in the M40 5000 metres in a new club age-group record of 16 minutes 20.99. Steve Corfield won gold in both the M60 800 metres (2:25.81) and the M60 1500 metres (4:55.05). Sarah Allport won her first county championship, taking gold in the W45 1500 metres (8:52.85). Sandra Francis won gold in both the W65 long jump (2.66) and the W65 100 metres (21.10). Alan Dolton won gold in both the M65 400 metres (1:47.11) and the M65 800 metres (4:11.87). Lorraine Hunte took silver in the W70 100 metres (18.14), finishing less than two-tenths of a second behind the gold medallist, Anne Nelson of Epsom.
Earlier on Saturday, Niamh Vincent was the first woman to finish the South Norwood parkrun, placing 19th overall out of 209 finishers (22:39). There were third places for Paul Finch in the Bethlem Royal Hospital parkrun (20:32) and Simon Ambrosi in the Lloyd parkrun (20:53). Martin Filer was fourth in the Riddlesdown parkrun (19:34). Cindy Siu was the fourth woman to finish the Lloyd parkrun, placing 27th overall (24:58). Striders had a total of 97 finishers in the various weekly parkruns.
