Surrey XC League
Striders of Croydon faced strong opposition in their penultimate Surrey Cross-Country League matches of the season at Chobham on Saturday. Their men placed fourth in their Division Three match. Harry Madgwick-Lawton led them home in 12th place, completing the muddy five-mile course in 27 minutes 59. Peter Mills was 20th (28:52), Lee Flanagan 25th (29:07), James Rhodes 31st (29:23), Phil Coales 36th (29:42), Martin Filer 44th (30:32), Andrew Aitken 46th (30:35) and Conor O’Hara-Barrett 54th (30:50). Matthew Stone placed first in the over-60 category and 56th overall (30:54). Simon Ambrosi completed the A team in 63rd place (31:12).
Striders’ B team placed third in their category. Erik Schrijnemaekers was 67th (31:29), Joseph Ibe 69th (31:34), Luke Burden 80th (32:09), Steve Corfield 94th (32:52), Tom Gillespie 97th (33:00), Andy Perks 104th (33:39), Simon Webster 138th (37:06) and Mark Harman 158th (40:03).
Striders’ women placed 25th in their Division Two match. Nikki Javan led the team in 65th place (38:06), with Cindy Siu 85th (39:23), Debra Bourne 112th (41:35), Jadwiga Brzask-Makiela 185th (49:42) and Michelle Klein 211th (59:21).
Earlier in the day, Striders had 74 finishers in the various weekly parkruns. John Punt was first out of 44 finishers in the Hanworth parkrun (21:19). Marc Burrows was third in the You Yangs parkrun near Melbourne (19:46). There were also third places for Tom Vincent at South Norwood (21:34) and Peter Laurence at Riddlesdown (23:22). Consuelo Kennefick was the first woman to finish the Riddlesdown parkrun, placing fourth overall (23:52). Ellyw Evans was the second woman to finish the Whanganui Riverbank parkrun in New Zealand, placing fifth overall (22:34).
