Surrey XC League Finale
Striders of Croydon faced strong opposition in their final Surrey Cross-Country League matches of the season on Saturday. Their women placed seventh in their Division Two match at Morden, and were ninth in the final Division Two table. Jennifer Gutteridge ran very well to finish twelfth, completing the five-mile course in 32 minutes 11. Consuelo Kennefick was 42nd (34:31), Kara Boaks 45th (34:49), Ellyw Evans 59th (36:14) and Nikki Javan completed the A team in 82nd (37:41). For the B team, Cindy Siu was 89th (38:26), Jadwiga Brzask-Makiela 192nd (47:13) and Michelle Klein 232nd (56:53).
Striders’ men placed fourth in their Division Three match at the same venue, and were fourth in the final Division Three table. They were led by Peter Mills, who ran well to place ninth of the 154 finishers, completing the five-mile course in 27 minutes 08. James Rhodes was 22nd (28:39), Lee Flanagan 34th (29:05), Phil Coales 37th (29:11) and Andrew Aitken 41st (29:24). Matthew Stone ran very well to be the first over-60 to finish, placing 47th overall (29:46). Simon Ambrosi was 58th (30:41), Tom Gillespie 59th (30:47) and Erik Schrijnemaekers 65th (31:07). Steve Corfield ran well to place second in the M60 age-group and 67th overall (31:13), and won the individual over-60 championship.
Striders’ B team placed third in their category. Andy Perks was 71st (31:32), Justin Macenhill 73rd (31:36), Luke Burden 85th (32:29) and John Summers 105th (34:00). Striders had the first two finishers in the M65 age-group with Jon Dean placing 114th overall (34:27) and Rob Zietz 124th overall (35:18). Simon Webster was 137th (36:36) and Mark Harman 148th (39:37).
At Lloyd Park, Daniel Finch was 43rd in the under-17 race, while his brother Thomas Finch was 38th in the under-13 race.
