Sutton 10km
Striders of Croydon produced some good performances in the Sutton 10-kilometre road race on Sunday, which was the first event in this year’s Surrey Road League. Phil Coales ran very well to place tenth out of 342 finishers (35:04) with Tatsuya Okamoto 17th (35:55), Andrew Aitken 21st (36:06) and Andy Perks completing the scoring quartet in 34th (37:24).
Striders’ women were led by Jennifer Gutteridge who was the ninth female finisher (42:08). Selena Wong was the 59th female finisher (54:24), with Linda Jones 68th (57:03) and Karen Peake 95th (62:42).
Striders also had several non-scorers. Erik Schrijnemaekers was 62nd (39:11) and Max Veglio 72nd (39:56), while Steve Corfield was second in the M60 age-group and 76th overall (40:11). Jason Gallagher was 92nd (41:50), Tim Lawlor 94th (41:53), Steve Massey 107th (43:07), Peter Mills 112th (43:33), Craig Smith 139th (45:53) and Darren Woods 149th (46:40). Stuart Hills was third in the M70 age-group and 293rd overall (61:30), while Keith Dube was 302nd (62:42) and Andy Elliott 320th (66:26).
In the Veterans AC 5K road race at Battersea on Tuesday, Andy Perks placed 16th in a new club M50 record of 17:37. Steve Corfield placed 27th (18:38) with Peter Johnson 39th (19:44).
On Saturday, Tatsuya Okamoto placed first in the Roundshaw parkrun (18:37). Rachel Lindley was the first woman to finish the Bedworth parkrun (20:42), while Kara Boaks was the first woman to finish the South Norwood parkrun (22:30). Striders had a total of 99 finishers in the various weekly parkruns.
In the London Landmarks Half-Marathon, Simon McHardy ran 1:29:55, while John O’Mahony ran 1:41:59. In the Brighton Marathon, Simon Little ran 4:49:26 and was followed by Sheena Hammond (4:50:18), Jeremy Tonkin (4:52:21), Mark Long (4:59:08), James Harrison (5:16:52) and Kerry Kane (5:51:30)
