The Croydon 10km
Matthew Stone, from Striders of Croydon, ran very well in the England Masters Cross-Country Trial race at Derby, which was held in order to select the England team for a match against Ireland in November. Matthew was sixth in the M60 age-group, placing 41st overall and completing the ten-kilometre course in 43 minutes 06. This gained him selection as a travelling reserve for the race to be held in Dublin.
In the Valencia Half-Marathon on Sunday, Consuelo Kennefick ran very well to set a new Striders W50 record of 1 hour 39 minutes 44. On the same day, Striders had at least 30 finishers in the Croydon 10K road race, led by James Rhodes who placed eighth (37:35). Erik Schrijnemaekers was eleventh (38:18), while Steve Corfield ran very well to be the first over-60 to finish, placing 16th overall (39:23). Michael Davis was 20th (40:37), Kerim Suruliz 26th (42:07), John O’Mahony 30th (42:57), John Punt 34th (43:09) and Sam O’Dongo 35th (43:17). Jennifer Gutteridge was the third woman to finish, placing 40th overall (43:44). Ellyw Evans was the sixth woman to finish (45:41), with Aisling O’Reilly tenth (48:16), Cindy Siu 17th (51:33) and Angela Seesurrun 20th (52:52).
In the Amsterdam Marathon, Chris Green finished in 4 hours 09 minutes 34 and was followed by Maryna Sedin (4:13:24) and Matthew Byrne (4:27:32). In the Beachy Head Marathon, Martin Filer placed 95th (4:20:04) and was followed by Keith Murkin (5:08:22), Anna O’Sullivan (5:08:23) and Stephen Siu (5:08:23). Debra Bourne completed the 52-kilometre Beachy Head Ultra in 6 hours 29 minutes 26.
Striders had a total of 87 finishers in the weekly parkruns on Saturday morning. Their best placing came from Alastair Falconer who was second at Ashbourne in Derbyshire (19:17).
