Steve Corfield, from Striders of Croydon, ran very well to set a club M60 800-metre record of 2 minutes 19.66 in the Blackheath & Bromley Open Meeting at Norman Park on Tuesday. At the same meeting, Peter Johnson placed 15th out of 18 runners in the 1500 metres (5:13.71).
Striders faced strong opposition in the first Rosenheim League match of the season, at Battersea Park on Wednesday. They produced some good performances, with Sarah Allport placing third in the women’s 1500 metres in a personal best 8:49.2. They gained valuable points in the field events through Sandra Francis (long jump and javelin), Luke Burden (high jump and long jump), Peter Mills (shot) and Phil Coales (javelin). Unfortunately, the full results were not available at the time of writing.
On the same evening, Striders had an impressive total of eleven teams in the annual Beckenham Relays. Their women’s A team of Catherine Jarvis (20:16), Ellyw Evans (18:42) and Lottie Nusca (19:06) were the 14th female team to finish, placing 100th overall out of 162 teams. Their men’s A team of Max Veglio (15:23), Tim Lawlor (16:36) and Marc Burrows (15:52) placed 31st.
On Saturday, Andrew Aitken was first out of 166 finishers in the South Norwood parkrun (18:03), with James Rhodes placing second (18:52). Niamh Vincent was the first female finisher, placing 13th overall (21:44), while Angela Seesurrun was the third female finisher, placing 41st overall (24:35). Selena Wong was the second female finisher in the Mallards Pike parkrun in Gloucestershire, placing 16th overall (25:24). Matthew Stone was third in the Tewkesbury parkrun (20:02). Striders had a total of 115 finishers in the various weekly parkruns.
On Sunday, Simon McHardy completed the Edinburgh Marathon in 3 hours 43 minutes 56.
